Thermo Controller

Stop to think for a moment how much your organization has invested in delicate medical, industrial or diagnostic equipment. More than likely, it’s enough to give you a heart attack big enough to suddenly be someone who needs that kind of equipment used on them! The cost for this kind of gear is staggering, and that makes it all the more important that you protect it by using only the best accessories alongside it.

Deploying the right kind of thermo controller is an absolutely vital step to ensuring that your devices are always able to stand the test of time. Once you have these in place, you’ll also want to keep a number of additional spare batteries and other accessories on hand so your workshop or laboratory never has to suffer any downtime.

SMC Pneumatics always has plenty of this kind of equipment in stock. Our experts have compiled a small list of options to help you out in case you’ve been having some difficulty deciding which kind is best for your operation.

Air-cooled Thermo Controllers

You may think that if you’re using pneumatic gear, then you’re already reliant on air and might, therefore, want to try out air-cooled thermo controllers. In spite of the name, however, these are instead cooled off by fans that draw in air from around the unit so you won’t really need to invest in an air compressor or anything like that. They simply cool themselves the same way that rack servers and internal combustion engines do.

HEC-A series equipment circulates fluid controlled to a constant temperature and passes it through a heat source. Heat is then exchanged through the fluid to maintain a constant temperature at all times. Once it returns to the unit, it’s cooled or heated through a Peltier device and moves back through the circuit.

This makes these systems ideal for all of the following:

  • X-ray fluoroscopes
  • Blood preservation devices
  • Electron scanning microscopes

If you have any of these pieces of equipment sitting around, then you’ll certainly want to consider making an investment in this kind of technology.

Water-cooled Thermo Controller Units

Some systems generate far too much heat for air-cooled units to work properly. In the worst case scenario, excessive heat can actually compromise the structural integrity of the underlying hardware. This is a scenario that no one wants to deal with, which is why water-cooled thermo controllers have become so popular in recent years.

They’re attractive options for those who employ electron scanning microscopes alongside a cooling tower. Technicians who work with chamber electrode temperature control systems and laser machining devices also have a tendency to prefer them.

Attaching Thermo Controllers to Alarms

On top of this, some devices feature alarm ports that alert your technicians the moment some measurement gets out of range. This is an ideal way to make sure that you don’t experience overload conditions or ever suffer from overheating. If you’re working with an extremely sensitive piece of machinery that has to stay within certain boundaries, then you’ll certainly want to interface your controller with an external alarm.

While you and your technical crews will still need to remain ever vigilant, this can drastically reduce your risks of experiencing a dramatic thermal failure. That’s certainly good news for those who monitor laboratories that can’t afford any downtime.

External Adapters & Connectors on Thermo Controllers

More than likely, you’re going to want to interface your new device with something from the outside world. Power connectors, naturally, allow you to attach a thermo controller to any standard exterior power source. This means you won’t even have to do much in the way of wiring to get your existing workspace ready for the new configuration.

Communications interfaces on these units are all based around standard designs. While many laboratories have moved on from legacy technology, you might be wondering if you can still find equipment that supports nine pin d-sub socket connectors. The good news is that several product lines continue to ship with either RS-232C or RS-485 jacks, which makes it easy to connect them to a variety of computerized terminals that are still in use the world over. Many manufacturers continue to produce new gear that can support these venerable standards.

There’s a chance that your lab uses a very different communication method to take manage your equipment, however. Once again, thermo controller companies have you covered. There are countless other options to pick from. For that matter, there are also a variety of external sensor ports affixed to different devices that add to the total number of choices you have.

Choosing the Right Thermo Controller for Your Organization

Large university medical labs have very different needs from small business ventures, which is why there are so many options when it comes to buying thermo controllers. There are more than enough product lines to serve everyone’s needs. Whether you’re looking for something to manage one simple piece of equipment or need a device that can handle a sizable heat load, SMC Pneumatics has something in stock that should take care of every chore you have in mind. Contact us online today to get in touch with one of our experienced professionals.

Engineers are always working on developing new solutions to existing problems, so you’ll want to ask them for some more information. They can help you find out more about what products are available on the market.
